IMPLEMENTATION trip-

Schedule of events

Day 1:
  • Implementation Travel Team arrives in Don Juan and moves in with host families
  • Meet community members and contractors about the implementation process
  • Team familiarizes themselves with the work area and the school

Day 2:
  • Team 1 met with contractors at the work site and work on the piping schematic and video of site
  • Team 2 purchased construction materials in Santo Domingo​
​Day 3:
  • Finalized piping schematic
  • APMAE meeting with community about informing and familiarizing the community about the implementation process
  • Materials for piping is brought to work site
Day 4:
  • ​Team 1 visited the water treatment site
  • The trenches in which the pipes go were not dug deep enough, so team 1 had to dig the trenches deeper
  • Team 2 picked up the supplies and materials for the piping
  • Bonded with community
Day 5:
  • Prepared for implementation of pipes by cutting and fitting the pvc pipes
  • Pipes were not secured in place or together, but the layout was finished by the end of the day

Day 6:
  • Finalized pipe configurations and schematics
  • Glues pipes together to ensure pipe connections
  • The team also did the system shock calculations
Day 7:
  • ​The first pressure test was done on the pipes
  • The team also updated the fittings on the well pump to make the connections between the pipes and the well more secure
  • The gluing of the pipes was finished
Day 8:
  • More pressure tests were done
  • The trenches holding the pipes are filled in with sand
  • The team shocked the system conducted the first bacteria test on the system

Day 9:
  • More bacteria tests and chlorine tests are done
  • Results from bacteria tests were worse than expected due to sanitation and plumbing issues in the school
  • Cleaned out tinacos in the community
Day 10:
  • Connection from pipe system to the school mural (top of page)
  • Mural is made as a community engagement activity
  • Worked on dosing the pump set up with chlorine
  • Community workshops and training focused on maintaining water pumping and chlorination systems

Day 11:
  • The team conducted the final chlorination test
  • The results from the second bacteria test went much better than the first time around
  • Adjustments were made on the dosing of the pumping system
  • Everyone said their goodbyes as the team prepared to leave
